Borussia Dortmund Beats Paris St-Germain to Qualify for their First Champions League Final since 2013

Published:

Borussia Dortmund gained an advantage in the first leg of the game by taking the lead with their first goal. They have shocked PSG again by winning them 1-0.

The goal came as a result of PSG failing to mark Mats Hummels five yards from Julian Brandt’s left-wing corner.

He eventually claimed victory for Dortmund with a powerful header as the game ended with a 1-0 in their favor.

Now Dortmund has made it to the Champions League Finals after 11 years.

PSG’s Warren Zaire-Emery lost an amazing chance at close range when he sent the ball bouncing against the post. This happened shortly before the 35-year-old Hummels gained some space into which he duly planted a well-targeted header.

PSG Was Aiming to Score First Goal

After last week’s fixtures, PSG re-strategized intending to mount the first goal in this second-leg come-back.

To achieve that, Goncalo Ramos was drafted into the front line to spearhead the attack with Mbappe and Dembele.

As pressure from the home team began to increase, Gregor Kebel was tested by Both Ramos and Mbappe. However, the Portuguese international couldn’t let them break down his territory.

The visiting team tried to penetrate through first-leg goal scorer Niclas Fullkrug and it ended fruitless.

Fullkrug held off his markers with his strength and smartly sent the ball to Julian Ryerson who was advancing.

Julian sent the ball flying to the side of the net with a powerful shot from his right leg before catching his breath.

Dortmund then decided to come on them with a dangerous counter to ease the pressure from their side.

Finals to hold on Saturday at Wembley Stadium

Dortmund played well and frustrated PSG’s effort to become the European champions for the first time. PSG had previously lost this opportunity in the 2020 final and has now been hindered by the French title winners.

The final match will be played at Wembley on Saturday, June 1 (20:00 BST). Just like in 2013, it could become an all-German affair if Bayern gets to beat Real Madrid in their second leg.

The first leg between Bayern and Real Madrid was a 2-2 draw in Germany. The second leg is fixed to be played in Spain on Wednesday (20:00 BST).
