Chelsea, following the close of an average 2023/2024 season are making plans to rebuild the team ahead of 2024/2025.
These plans started with the firing of Mauricio Pochettino after his one-season spell at the London side.
Then, the appointment of former Leicester City manager, Enzo Maresca to serve as the fourth official manager since Todd Boehly took over.
Looking back at his predecessors, Enzo has a serious job to do and this may be the biggest test of his career.
Chelsea’s Chances of Doing Better Could Increase With Maresca
Now holding the reins as the head coach of Chelsea Football Club, it is Enzo Maresca’s turn to make a difference.
This difference could possibly start from a change in the squad lineups, coaching staff, and tactics.
It is worth noting that as a young coach, Enzo has sat under the tutelage of the legendary Pep Guardiola.
He also arrives at Chelsea as a cup holder after winning the Championship with Leicester City.
With such a bright start and good luck, Enzo brings a lot of positivity to the team and hopefully, it infects everyone.
Notably, the team is a young and growing one with players like Cole Palmer, Nicolas Jackson, Noni Madueke, and Conor Gallagher.
There are other top performers battling injuries like Reece James, Chillwell, and Christopher Nkunku.
The return of on-loan players by the coming season could also boost the squad pending new arrivals.
However, it won’t be surprising to see Enzo going all out for a total revamp of the team.
Most especially if they don’t suit his needs and playing style.
Interestingly, the club being one of the highest spenders during the last transfer window won’t mind the financial implications.
Todd at this point, wants results and is ready to go as far as to ensure he gets them.
Chelsea Results So Far
A look at the statistics of every Chelsea manager since Todd’s arrival, Enzo’s immediate predecessor, Pochettino outperformed.
His win rate is 51% in 51 games standing against Graham Potter’s 39% in 31 matches.
Then, Champions League-winning coach, T.Tuchel who had a more successful run, played 44 games less with a 43% win rate.
This question the decision of Todd firing Pochettino by most fans and bringing in a much less-experienced coach to take over.
It also mounts a certain amount of pressure on Enzo Maresca to better the performance of the team under Poch.
So, given Chelsea’s finish last season in 6th position, a new target will be set.
All eyes will be in three directions; the Conference League, possible FA Cup success, and the top four.
