FG Warns Against Releasing Films, Skits, and Music Videos Without NFVCB Permit

Published:

The Nigerian government has released a new mandate on the entertainment industry.

It declared that all skits, music videos, and films must be permitted by the National Films and Videos Censors Board.

The government further declared it an offense to post content without classification from NFVCB.

Notably, NFVCB classifies movies based on age ratings and content guidance.

This action enables families to make informed choices on what members can watch.

Moreover, it protects children from watching the wrong content.

The National Films and Video Censors Board informed the public of its intention to classify audiovisual content in May.

The Board stated that music videos and skits would likely be classified.

Moreover, Shaibu Husseini, the NFVCB executive director, spoke at length on the need to improve video content classification in Nigeria.

Also, Director Shaibu said the NFVCB is engaging tirelessly to establish a “World Class Classification center.”

However, he cautioned content creators to refrain from posting unclassified content.

Mr. Shaibu further said NFVCB will work closely with security agents to identify and prosecute offenders.

NFVCB Place Close Watch on Offenders

The Nigerian film and video censor board is out to get any offender.

According to Director Shaibu, posting skits, musical videos, and movies on any platform without the NFVCB classification is an offense.

Shaibu also said NFVCB has zero tolerance for same-sex content on any social media platform.

Moreover, he stressed that public display of affection by same-sex couples is not allowed in Nigeria.

Furthermore, Nigerian government issues censorship certificates to videos and movies that have been reviewed.

The NFVCB uses symbols and letters to rate content.

It includes G for General viewing, PG for parental guidance, and C to describe children’s content.

Other ratings by the Nigerian government are 12A, 12, 15, and 18.
