Former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi criticized President Bola Tinubu’s comment, downplaying Nigeria’s struggles by comparing them to other countries.
President Tinubu made a statement while speaking with a delegation from the National Assembly on Eid-el-Kabir.
According to the President, Nigeria is not the only country struggling with poverty globally.
Notably, the president acknowledged the country’s poverty and suffering.
However, he stressed that Nigerians must face the challenges.
Ex-governor Obi reacted to the comment via an X post.
Obi beckoned on Nigeria’s leaders to go beyond acknowledging the country’s numerous challenges and offer concrete solutions.
Additionally, Obi highlighted that Nigerians are facing insecurity, poverty, hunger, poor education, corruption, and high infant mortality, among others.
So, he felt disappointed that those in leadership downplayed the situation instead of providing a plan for tackling the issue.
According to Obi, Nigerians are well aware of their problems.
He noted that the country has become the poverty capital of the world.
The ex-governor mentioned that the country has the hungriest, most insecure, and most unemployed people.
Additionally, the income gap between the rich and the poor is wide.
Also, the country’s infrastructure and healthcare challenges are high.
A Clear Vision and a Roadmap Are the Hallmark of a Visionary Leadership, Says Obi
In contrast, Obi emphasized that Nigerians need a comprehensive approach tailored to solve the country’s unique challenges.
He maintained that generalizations from some leaders won’t account for the people’s experiences.
Also, he said that a true leader has to provide direction, guidance, solutions, and reassurance in times of crisis.
He cited an example of a pilot who not only announces turbulence during a flight but also assures the passengers that they’d be safe.
Similarly, Obi believed that a clear vision and a roadmap to overcoming obstacles are the hallmarks of visionary leadership.
Finally, he urged Nigeria’s leaders to provide tangible solutions rather than mere reminders that others face the same.
